At Chickenshed, we care about the environment. We create an environment where everyone can flourish. We also do what we can to help the environment on a larger scale and have just been awarded the Green Mark, proving that the theatre has reduced its 'environmental footprint'.
Chickenshed now sends 50% less rubbish to landfill and recycle all card, paper, glass bottles, plastic, cans, printing inks and batteries (click here to read an article from the Times Online). We take our old redundant IT equipment to Computer Aid International where it is refurbished and sent to developing countries. We’ve put 'hippos' in our water cisterns to reduce water on flushing. Our internal ‘Switch off when not in use’ campaign has resulted in a fall in our energy usage. We re-use scrap paper, old envelopes and packaging, print pages double sided and have 'stationery amnesties' - handing over unused items from their desks. And we buy wisely - serving Fair-trade tea and coffee, using green laundry and cleaning products - and selling items with a recycled element in the theatre shop.
Chickenshed has signed up to the Mayor's Green Procurement scheme and are committed to asking suppliers if they can demonstrate a good level of environmental or ethical performance. Fortunately, Chickenshed has an excellent example to follow in its three year charity partner, Sky, whose commitment to the environmental agenda has been well publicised in recent months – including recently achieving CarbonNeutral status through the measurement, reduction and offsetting of its carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
