A Day at the Shed: diversity and inclusion at work
A Day at the Shed is a unique opportunity for corporate, statutory and charitable organisations to work with the highly acclaimed Chickenshed.
Chickenshed is a pioneering theatre company. Our unique inclusive creative process means that everyone is welcomed and everyone is valued. The methods that we have developed in more than 30 years of groundbreaking theatrical work, allow us to get the best from large and eclectic groups. The way that we work helps to unlock the potential of the individual and enable everyone to see the value of their contribution to group working.
More and more often, businesses and other organisations are looking towards inclusive processes to enable them to maximise the potential of an increasingly diverse workforce. Whether this is as a response to legislative changes or because they have understood the need to harness the skills and abilities of everyone who works with them, A Day at the Shed can provide a transformational leap forwards for an organisation.
As part of A Day at the Shed, participants are given the opportunity to:
• Develop clear and uninhibited communication skills
• Increase individual confidence to communicate ideas in a diverse team setting
• Identify factors that motivate both themselves and those around them
• Lose inhibition and feel comfortable in seeking the assistance of others
• Give commitment and focus to team tasks and goals
• Challenge their individual ‘comfort zones’ and embrace risk-taking
• Match team tasks to the skills and motivation of a diverse team
• Improve presentation skills – individually and in a group setting
• Develop skills and methods of evaluation (to evaluate oneself and those around you)
Activities are led by Chickenshed’s most experienced staff and company members. The methods we use are based on the way we work creatively as a company – this is what we know because this is what we do. And it works. All of the work is bespoke but draws centrally on the disciplines of performance; movement, music, script and lyric development, and dramatic improvisation. Nobody is ever made to feel uncomfortable with the work and nobody is ever forced to do anything that they do not wish to do. Embarrassment and fear have no place in what we do; support and encouragement are how we draw the best from those we work with.
Whether you wish to use A Day at the Shed to strengthen working within a team, enhance relationships across departments, or have specific diversity focused goals to achieve, Chickenshed can work with you to develop a day that matches your needs. Previous participants include BskyB, the Cabinet Office, the Metropolitan Police, Arts and Business and BT.
Throughout the Day, participants are able to enjoy the facilities of the theatre, which include the 280-seat Rayne Theatre, a recording studio, a lively bar with full catering and a beautiful garden patio area. Developing the experience of the day further, you may wish to take advantage of optional evening entertainment, which we can provide for you alongside full catering for over 100 participants and their guests.
