Lunar Theatre Workshop

The Lunar Theatre workshop is the 21yrs+ membership group at Chickenshed. Unlike the other membership groups at Chickenshed, the lunar members do not meet on a regular weekly basis; sessions run intermittently throughout the year dependant on the wider artistic programme. The Lunar Theatre Workshop was re-established in September 2006 and has seen an exciting development for old and new members.
Workshops are delivered by Chickenshed staff and the Lunar membership. This is an important and wanted creative space for the committed individual’s involved; a creative platform for ideas and individual skills to be developed. All of our members are invited to put forward workshop ideas and through consultation we will endeavour to provide a creative space with individuals of similar interests.
In recent year’s, the Lunar membership have been invited to take part in the professional company work; Vanity Fair (2006) and The Attraction (2008). This invitation was for an eight week rehearsal period, a technical weekend and a three week run of performances; this experience was not paid work for the members. This is an opportunity which we hope will continue each year.
The Christmas show is another regular, voluntary performance opportunity. However, the commitment and process is often not suitable for the Lunar membership, we ask our members to consider the following before committing themselves:
• Work commitments; most Lunar members are not able to make the matinee performances.
• Working with Children. The majority of the cast is 7-18year olds; being comfortable with taking direction from students/members who are considerably younger.
• The amount of off-stage time; being comfortable with spending time in the dressing room with the rest of the cast.
We are not able to offer regular sessions because of a number of reasons:
• Lack of funding
• Chickenshed recognising other full time commitments of the membership group; family, work etc.
• The breadth of the artistic programme leading to no physical time or space to use the workshop spaces.
For those interested in joining the Lunar Theatre, there is currently a waiting list but please get in touch with us for an application form and we will be in touch with you when a place is available.
