Join our Artistic Director's Circle

Lou Stein founded the Gate Theatre and was Artistic Director at the Palace Theatre in Watford. In his career he has worked with talented people including Helen Mirren, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Helena Bonham-Carter, but now truly believes that he has the best job in the UK.

He first discovered Chickenshed when his son Ethan came here. Ethan has Downs Syndrome and, like any parent, Lou wanted his son to have the same opportunities as any child. To be welcomed as a talented, valuable performer, to have opportunities to work with professionals, and do what he loves.

Lou’s vision for Chickenshed is simple: to produce unmissable theatre. To make theatre that makes people think differently about the world. And theatre that gives people from some of the most disadvantaged backgrounds the chance to be part of a pioneering, diverse and inclusive theatre company.
