Simon Cooper was a long time Chickenshed member and a keen entrepreneur! After he joined Chickenshed aged 12, it very quickly became apparent that he was a prodigious drummer, and became a founder member of the Youth Band. Due to his ongoing health issues, he was never really a ‘conscientious’ school attender, and so by the time he was 15 he would often be found at Chickenshed on a Friday morning playing drums in Tales from the Shed.

Simon later went on to work as a drummer for Chas and Dave, photographer for Status Quo and started his Friday Night Rock service touring local synagogues. But he always came back to his 'home' as he liked to call it.

Simon Cooper passed away in 2016, and in 2017 we held a fundraising event in his honour, moving our popular music night Jo Collins & Friends into the Rayne Theatre (an idea Simon had put forward for many years.) The evening was a huge success, and a great tribute to Simon, and we are delighted to be again ‘going large’ in the theatre. And as Simon would have said, “Let’s rock again – but even bigger!”
