Studying at Chickenshed gives you hands-on experience in a real theatre and the high-calibre, professional resources that keep it operating as an exciting, inclusive theatre company.

Home to two indoor theatres, an outdoor amphitheatre, study spaces and fully accessible specialist technical production facilities, Chickenshed is purpose-built to ensure that everyone can access all of its resources.

Performance Spaces

The beating heart of Chickenshed is the 292 seat Rayne Theatre which was built in 1994 to provide a vibrant and adaptable space to showcase our inclusive performance activity and the performers at the centre of it.

With fully accessible production facilities, auditorium, sound desk, dock, dressing room, technical level and study spaces, the Rayne Theatre is centred around a flat, purpose built stage area with full lighting, sound and production resources to support the dynamic, imaginative and inclusive performances for which Chickenshed is known.

Alongside the Rayne is our intimate 68 seat Studio Theatre, a versatile performance space with raked seating and accessible specialist production equipment, and an outdoor amphitheatre for seasonal performance and outdoor workshop and study opportunities.

Communal Space

It’s not all work at Chickenshed! Head past the Box Office and you will find yourself in the Chickenshed bar area catered by Brothers Grill. Not only is this a place to eat and take five but the space easily converts into additional performance space for our regular music, jazz and comedy performances.

Access for all

Chickenshed was built with inclusion at the forefront of our plans and so all of our spaces are fully accessible for students with a wide variety of needs. In addition to facilities within the theatre, our car park offers direct, flat access with multiple disabled parking bays.

We were awarded a Grade One for inclusive performing arts provision in the OFSTED/Adult Learning Inspectorate inspection October 2003.
