Latest News Energy, Empowerment and Wonder at ITV Studios On Tuesday 17 April our staff, students and members of our Children’s and Youth Theatres brought more than a little bit of magic to ITV Studios. Chickenshed is quite rightly a legendary theatre company, not just for its inclusivity but also the incredible quality of its work. - David Walliams An Evening with Chickenshed, hosted by Chickenshed trustee Professor Jonathan Shalit OBE and the author and comedian David Walliams, was one of the last events to ever take place in the iconic London Studios on the South Bank, and the brilliance of the performance didn't fail to match that of the venue. Energy, empowerment and wonder permeated through the room and our vital inclusive processes were met with thunderous applause, and not a few tears! The evening was filled with various performances from 150 of our young people including an interpretation of Faith originally recorded by George Michael, an excerpt from David Walliams’ The Midnight Gang, performed at Chickenshed last year, and a very moving and powerful version of Stormzy’s Blinded By Your Grace. Interspersed with films of our beneficiaries who have thrived in Chickenshed’s nurturing and accepting environment the evening was full of the impact, vision and essence of who we are and why we exist. Our audience – including Sarah, Duchess of York, Lorraine Kelly, Montana Brown, Michelle Collins, Lindsey Coulson, Lizzie Cundy, Kelly Hoppen MBE, Anneka Rice, Cat Simmons, Jeremy Vine, Wayne Sleep and many others - were absolutely fantastic, with many of them speaking of how stimulated and moved they were by our performers and methodology. Chickenshed is a place where every single individual has their voice and value recognised and where there is no fear of rejection. An Evening with Chickenshed demonstrated perfectly that there is certainly no compromise on quality by being inclusive. Coming to Chickenshed, I found me - I found somewhere I can be me Huge thanks go to ITV Chairman, Sir Peter Bazalgette, who very kindly donated the beautiful Studio 1 to Chickenshed which enabled us to showcase our work and raise vitally needed funds for the theatre, as well as to Julian Bellamy at ITV Studios for championing Chickenshed, to Kathy Schulz, Susie Greenwood, Judy Griffiths, Errol Osman and the phenomenal London Studios Team who have shown such passion for our work. We'd like to say a massive THANK YOU to everyone who made this incredible event possible, and to all of our many supporters who help our children and young people to feel totally accepted through our pioneering theatre. With your support and love we are able to secure opportunities for the next generation of young people to discover their inherent value and potential, whoever they are and whatever their story. Keep an eye on our website and our Twitter feed for clips, images and quotes from the night, including a feature on Good Morning Britain.
