A:live B:reaved  by Peter Dowse & Alex Bremer

Just one of nine pieces combined to form monolog 3, our new selection of fresh writing from within the Chickenshed community. Showing at Chickenshed from 11 to 22 February.

Having had the honour of delivering on the Royal Free Hospital's 'Dying Matters' week in the summer of 2019 a spark was reawakened of a piece I had wanted to write for some years. A very good friend of mine had suffered the tragic loss of one of his children and had spoken and written about the events and feelings that had been experienced by both him and his family.

I wanted to express this from a fathers point of view and he very kindly agreed to write an account based on his experience. You will recognise these sections due the searing honesty contained within them. However, this is not a single account, it is ten narratives each with a different view on grief and loss, all told though different prisms held together by a solo actor.

Along with these fragmented narratives I have asked three Chickenshed Directors to work on different content, to include spoken word, physical theatre and dance. Their input has stretched Tom (actor) and forced him to put his whole mind and body into the role. Add to this a score from Finn Kebb, which fluctuates between sound track and installation, and you have a piece of theatre powered by the many currents of grief we all encounter at some point within our own lives.
